Was cleaning up after close last night and went to wash the immersion blender in the sink. Forgot to unplug it and one accidental pushed button later, almost lost the tip of my finger.
Always remember to unplug your tools before cleaning!

So sorry. This is my nightmare. I have gotten lucky. I scold myself every time I forgot to unplug the immersion blender. Hopefully we never make that mistake again. Hope you heal quick!

I’ll make sure to unplug my toaster for my bath tonight!

Ive jammed my hand into a moving meat slicer blade twice. My lesson was don’t clean angry. I get stupid when I’m angry.

How, in the fuck, does an immersion blender get anywhere *near* a dish tank without being unplugged?

Its like our version of the toaster bath. You *always* unplug the toaster before you bring it into the bath with you.

    That sucks. I’m sorry.

Are there people who are using blenders without a removable blade? I always take the whole thing off not just for safety, but also to keep water away from the electronics.

I was cleaning off the robocoup and said this same thing to myself today. Except mine was before something catastrophic happened lol

Watched a cook press the blades part of the immersion blender against his chest while trying to dislodge it from the motor part and literally walked across the kitchen to unplug it.

  8. I used my coffee grinder to grind weed lol, when I had just taken the weed out the blades started spinning despite the lid that turns it on being off

I’ve been out of the game for a while. Nowadays, I almost always cut myself on a sharp knife in the dish pan at home. I’d consider myself a seasoned vet and even started as a dishwasher, so I know the golden rule yet still get bitten by it. That’s the most annoying part.

Glad you still have a finder tip, I lost one of mine to a meat grinder. I was 3, and very stupid, still am of course but I take a strong stance on “lock out, tag out” on equipment. Seen too many things to not LOTO and eliminate any possibility of injury aside from being clumsy and dimwitted. Another one I like as far a safety practices go, no blades of any kind in the 3 bay whatsoever unless it’s always in your hand. Seen too many small reenactments of jaws to not, and a guy actually lost a top joint of a thumb to a #10 can that was tossed in the wash before it went into the bin. Needless to say, if it’s a blade, especially a powered one at that, it’s always managed safely. The moment it is not in use it’s unplugged, and if it’s being cleaned and the power is on, I give a wide berth to the angry end.

Glad to hear it wasn’t a full finger briss and hope you a speedy recovery, and abc my friend, let a lesson be learned and not repeated

Immersion blenders no joke, one of my old co-workers, degloved part of her hand and had a bad laceration from the same way op was cleaning it.

Hope you weren’t wearing that ring when this happened also lol

Had the same thing happen to me with a much smaller less powerful immersion blender. You hate to see it joke all heals well

I’ve only sliced my finger putting the blade back on the meat slicer. Or taking to my coworker about cut gloves while using a mandolin, that one bled for 20 minutes, had to use bleed stop.

I’m paranoid about machines so I always unplug.

Had some new culinary school berate me for wasting my time and not working efficiently because I insisted on unplugging the blender when I cleaned it…

    I hate people
